Making Sense of Your Money Without the Jargon

Most financial education feels like reading a textbook written by accountants. We take a different path. Our courses focus on helping you understand the patterns in your own spending, the real stories behind market movements, and how to ask better questions about where your money goes.

We're not here to teach you complicated formulas or promise you'll suddenly become an investment genius. Instead, we help you build the confidence to look at financial statements without your eyes glazing over, and maybe even spot a few opportunities you'd previously missed.

What Actually Happens in These Sessions

We run small group workshops where people bring their actual questions. Not hypothetical scenarios from a case study, but real situations they're facing right now.

A typical session might start with someone asking why their cash flow forecast keeps missing the mark. We'll dig into their numbers together, looking for patterns they haven't noticed. Usually it's something simple—like how they're accounting for irregular expenses, or a timing mismatch they'd been overlooking for months.

The goal isn't to make you an expert overnight. It's to give you enough understanding that you can have a proper conversation with your accountant, or review a financial report and know which questions to ask. That's honestly where most value comes from.

What We're Planning for Autumn 2025

We typically run programmes twice a year, with the next series starting in September. These dates aren't completely set yet, but this gives you an idea of what the structure looks like.

September 2025

Reading Financial Statements Without Panic

Four evening sessions where we go through actual balance sheets and profit and loss statements. You'll learn what all those line items actually mean and which numbers matter most for different types of analysis. We use real examples from UK businesses, anonymised obviously.

October 2025

Cash Flow Patterns and Planning

This one's practical. We look at how to build forecasts that actually reflect reality, not just optimistic guesses. You'll see common mistakes people make when projecting cash flow, and learn a few techniques for stress-testing your assumptions before they cause problems.

November 2025

Cost Analysis That Makes Sense

Understanding where money actually goes in a business is harder than it sounds. We'll work through methods for tracking costs properly, identifying which expenses give you value, and spotting areas where you might be spending more than necessary without realising it.

December 2025

Year-End Review Workshop

A chance to bring everything together before the new year. We'll look at how to review your financial year properly, what to watch for in your numbers, and how to set realistic targets for 2026. This session tends to be the most interactive because everyone's at different stages.

Who Runs These Sessions

Our instructors have spent years working with businesses on financial analysis. They're not academic lecturers—they're people who've done this work in the real world and can explain it without making you feel lost.

Guest Presenter

Joins us occasionally to talk about financial reporting standards and what's changing in UK accounting requirements. Makes compliance topics surprisingly interesting, which is no small achievement.

Who These Sessions Work Best For

We get the best results with business owners or managers who already deal with financial information but want to understand it more deeply. If you're comfortable with spreadsheets and willing to bring real examples to discuss, you'll find these sessions useful.

They're less suitable if you're looking for basic bookkeeping training or want someone to tell you exactly what to do with your business. We focus on helping you develop your own analysis skills, not providing prescriptive advice.

Sessions run in Luton, with typically eight to twelve participants. We keep groups small so there's time for individual questions. Places tend to fill up by July for autumn programmes, so it's worth getting in touch early if you're interested.
